Extending a hotel management module beyond its out-of-the-box limits

This client came with an Odoo App Store hotel module already in place. It handled the basics — but as operations grew, they kept hitting walls. Our job was to find those walls and knock them down.

Problem

No visibility across rooms and guests at a glance

Staff had to navigate multiple screens to understand room status and guest check-in state. There was no single view of what was happening across the property.

Solution

Custom dashboards for front desk and management

We built a suite of dashboards giving staff instant visibility into guest stays, room statuses, occupancy rates, and upcoming arrivals — all without leaving Odoo.

Problem

Module blocked backfilling past check-in records

Strict date enforcement meant staff couldn’t correct errors or enter data for walk-ins processed manually. No way to record a check-in after the fact.

Solution

Authorised backfill mode with audit trail intact

We modified the check-in flow to allow authorised users to record past check-ins — keeping full audit integrity while giving staff the flexibility the original module lacked.

Problem

Group bookings forced a single checkout date for all guests

The module treated every group booking as one block — all guests had to leave on the same date. Real group bookings rarely work that way.

Solution

Per-guest checkout dates within a single group booking

We extended the group booking model to support individual checkout dates per guest, with consolidated billing and reporting still working across the whole group.
